Miata Tech Day is fast approaching on November 13th and we need to start generating some buzz about this. We have a lot of new people in the club and they probably don’t have a clue about what Tech Day is all about.

I’ll share the basic information here but I’d like to invite the rest of you, which have enjoyed Tech Day in the past, to share your experiences.

Basically, Miata Tech Day is a chance for you to learn more about your Miata, hang out with cool Miata people, and have a play day to install any goodies you’ve purchased and would like help installing. The emphasis is on the HELP. There isn’t much that someone in the club hasn’t done in the past so you will get lots of help. We try to stay away from the more major items like roll bars and turbo chargers. Oil changes, brake pad changes, style bars, air horns, exhaust are all things that we’ve done in the past. We’ll have access to several lifts to put our babies up in the air if necessary. If there is enough interest I can hopefully arrange for a Paintless Dent Repair Technician to be here to work on minor door dings, etc on your beloved Miata or other family vehicle.

We have the Tech Day at our shop, Jack’s Paint Place, Inc. We supply the drinks, hamburgers, hot dogs, and the fixing’s. The rest of the club brings their favorite side dish or desert. We eat really well on Tech Day.

O.K. now it’s time for you Tech Day Alums to chip in and tell everybody how much fun you had at Tech Day.

You can find a map to the shop on our website http://www.jackspaintplace.com.

Get those toys and other work together and let’s have some fun. If you have any questions just post them here.

Jeff -

What about installing a Big Brake Kit? (Rotors, front calipers, pads and stainless lines...)

- L

PS - I'll even find time to make a home-made, no-artificial-ingredients, Bailey's Irish Creme Cheesecake on a Graham Cracker Butter Pecan crust in a shameless effort to bribe assistance... ;)

howdy folks...

would a timing belt/water pump replacement be considered too big of a job for Tech Day?

Brake kit shouldn't be too much of a problem if you think you can do the majority of the work with some assistance from eager parties.

Timing belt/water pump is a little involved but if someone with a lot of experience doing timing belts is there to help you could probably pull it off.

I'd like to change the rubber shift boots and the transmission oil to synthetic. Jeff, do you have a pump we can use? If not, I heard some folks use a turkey baster.

What brand of synthetic oil do you guys run in your trannies?

Thanks,

Isaac

We have both a pump and the tried and true "funnel in the engine bay and hose to tranny fill hole".

Rubber shift boots are a good idea. Especially for those with cars older than 3 or 4 years.

Talk to the parts department at North Park about getting both "rubber isolators" for around the shifter.

I run Redline MTL in the transmissions of all our Miatas.

Thanks, Jeff.

I'll stop by North Park. Just a couple of additional questions:

Where can I purchase Redline?

Are there only two rubber pieces that need to be replaced, or will I need additional pieces?

You can order it on the web from several sources. Just Google-It. Locally, they sell it at Alamo Performance.

Issac...
Redline Products are also available at Advance Auto Parts (at least the one close to my house). They have a good reputation but are nearly twice the price of Mobil 1 products. I'm using Mobil 1 75W-90 in the shifter turret and transmission and Mobil 1 15W-50 in the engine.

That doesn't look like an FM N/A Dual Exhaust... ;)

- L

(If you need some exhaust hangers, I have a couple of NIB if you want them...)

We'll start around 8:00. Feel free to stop by. Be forewarned however.... hanging out with us can bring you over to the dark side and you might have the urge to join the club.

One last reminder for those of you newbies (and others) who may be concerned about the weather. Remember, thanks to the good folks at Jack's Paint Place, we will be inside where it will be warm and dry. So pack up your goodies and your grub and come on out.
