Any tips from the Miata folks for my first autocross this weekend? Also anyone have a helmet I can use? :) (SASCA autocross this Sunday, Oct 23rd at the Verizon)

SASCA has loaner helmets available. Show up early, walk the course as many times as possible. There is a novice walk through where the Novice Chief (Kevin Childers) goes over everything to get you going. On your first couple runs an experienced member will ride along with you to give some pointers.

Bring water, sack lunch (we don't always take a lunch break to leave and find food), sunblock, hat and/or umbrella.

Take rides with as many people as you can, it's both fun and educational.

I don't think I'll be in your class, as I run CSP. You are more than welcome to grab a ride in my car. There will be an opportunity to ride in a bunch of cars, as most folks are pretty friendly. I highly suggest you catch a ride with Rohm, Ed Harloe, or Craig...these guys know how to drive. I'm still a novice, but I'm improving (although in small increments :) ).

I'm flattered, but you really need to put my name in a different column. You need to ride with me to find out how NOT to drive!

There are a lot of excellent drivers out there, Miata and otherwise. Chris Williams runs in CS and happens to be the current national champion. I try to ride with as many people as possible, regardless of vehicle. It is both fun and educational.

For those who didn't make it to the last autocross really missed out! It was the most fun course I've driven. It was longer than usual with high speeds but also very technical sections. So much fun!
